My DS wants a pix to cover speakers in his living room. He asked if I even have done any airbrushing...I said "not yet!!!!!!

Any info or whatever about anything would help.

Thanks

It's you again, Kell. People will start to talk if we keep meeting like this! LOL

My son want a "pictures" of some sorts to cover speakers in his living room. We joked about airbrushing over the weekend and he asked me if I did it. I said, "Not yet !!!!"

He wants it done on some sort of cloth. Maybe some fish, for he likes to dive.

I do paint, so one hurdle is over, but never have done AB...but that has never stopped me from starting anything in my life...if you know what I mean.

Can you give any suggestions on the cloth for the speaker and if you think that AB will work on cloth. Actually, any help would be wonderful.

I love your panda. That sure is a big picture.

Oh, I have forgotten to mention that my DD hopes to be in AU next Jan and do some diving herself. I tried it in my pool and that was tooooo much for me. Gotta have air from the sky not a tube!

If its on the speaker cloth why not Silk Screen it
Straight onto the cloth , Like they do T shirts ?
Or even Fabric Paint ?
Like the 2 rainbow Lorikeets above my cat painting.

Use fabric paint (watered to milk consistancy) on any natural material (ie cotton, linen). Will work fine with an AB

This one was an experiment with Acrylics using an airbrush. I was only going to paint the black background with the airbrush, so that the brush strokes would not be visible on the solid black areas. I had only used an airbrush a few times and never attempted any small detail work with one at that time. Once I started playing around with it . . . I couldn't stop. I ended up doing this entire painting with the airbrush.

btw - I call this one *Candle Light Mares* - it's 16" x 20" on canvas board.

One thing about airbrushs that some people don't realize is that you'll need a water trap on your air lines . . . especially in high humidity areas. This prevents moisture from getting into your paint and causing *fisheyes* in the painting.

If you have the time, place and the equipment . . . I suggest you give it a try. I think they are lots of fun and I was amazed at how much detail I was able to get with mine.

Good luck and be sure and share your final produce with us - be it with airbrush or not :)

I knew it was a Koala...after all pandas are from S. Africa...It was a test for you all.

Kell, I did silk screening about 50 years ago and with only one color. Of course that would put me a little ahead of never doing AB. But isn't that what life's about? New stuff!!! I don't like to go back...did that, done that, got the tee shirt!!! So AB it is.

I'll be seeing DS soon and we can go over size, colors, etc and we'll see what we come up with,

Thanks for the info on the water trap, GD... whatever that is. I'm sure that I will find out. Did you use different tips to get to the fine work or is it just manipulation of the sprayer?

jas, is that a pic you painted? The enlargement didn't enlarge!!! so I could not tell.

No problem . . . If I remember correctly I picked up my water trap at the local Home Depot . . . you should be able to find one where ever air tools/accessories are sold. As far as the tips . . . my brush came with three sizes. I started with the smallest and just ran with that one. I later experimented with the larger ones and realize now I should have used a larger one for the black background areas. But hey . . . we live and we learn right ;)

One thing I would like to mention/warn you about . . . and you may already know this, but it's worth mentioning for others too. Acrylics dry VERY VERY FAST - and that's under normal conditions. You put a little *air* behind them and wooooo ha . . . look out. So the key is keep things moving if you decide to use acrylic paint. For the project you have in mind, you may be better off with a water based paint. Hobby Lobby has a nice selection and unless you just want to use acrylic for some reason, I'd use something water based in the airbrush. Otherwise, you may experience technical difficulties and kill half the fun of the project. ;)

You are all too serious here...or don't know geography...Pandas are NOT from S. Africa, or were you afraid of "Fooling Mother Nature" as the commercial used to say? LOL

GD, thanks. I am going to check out HL and see what they have to say about the price of tea in China.

It's his wife that keeps him away. She doesn't like us that much. That's my uncle's wife too. I just threaten to throw the computer off the roof and have it shatter in a million pieces and it behaves for awhile. So no help needed...yet. lol
