Is is dangerous to put a 100 watt bulb into a (ceiling)light fixture for a 60 watt?

Potentially, certainly. The bulb socket and housing aren't made to take the heat of a 100 watt bulb. Sooner or later it could fail, maybe starting a fire.
If you look at old fixtures where people have been doing this, they're brown and almost burnt. I'd get another ceiling fixture. Even 100 watts isn't much, say for a kitchen.

Use one of the compact florescent bulbs - they use much less electricity and give off more light, with a WHOLE LOT LESS heat.

Sure do. Locally the big-box stores have been having some great sale prices on 4-packs.
