| I thought with so much experience and information between us we could share sources for cheaper or hard to find supplies. Or favorite techniques and unusual uses of standard supplies. Maybe we could also give information on less or non toxic substitutes for standard supplies (ie., turpentine, cadmium colors). What do you think? |

| I am lookin for large rolls of canvas backed paper that used to be available at Pearl Paint. I'd also like to find an acid free heavy weight substitute for brown paper, also in large rolls. Any leads? |

| I like the idea of this thread,.
I don't know where to get the things you want. Back when I was a teacher I got most of my supplies from Dick Blick, Utrecht, and Sax Art's and Crafts.
One of my favorite places now is here in Minnesota Wet Paint. It is an independent art supply store and has wonderful supplies. Here is their web site so you can look at what they have.
http://www.wetpaintart.com/
If you have an art school near by you might check to see if they have an art supply store and if you can buy there or if they know where to get what you want.
That is what I can think of off the top of my head, maybe more will come to me later.
While I was typing you got the Dick Bllick web site, so there is one less you need to google.

| P.S. Wet Paint has a sale on right now and their sales are usually very good. They do ship and you could ask them if they could get what you want. They are incredibly helpful. |

| Try http://www.jerrysartarama.com/ Usually I can find things there that I can't get at Dick Blick's or Cheap Joe's. I LOVE the catalog. It's something like 600 pages! |

| I'm not sure how many of ya'll are doing your own frame making, but it can sure save a few bucks if you have a place to do them yourself.
Here's a pretty decent source for moulding and other framing supplies.
http://www.jrmoulding.com/
This site has some framing and mat cutting tools. Also some helpful info and even a couple of online videos you can view to see their *how-to* guides.
http://www.clubframeco.com/
They both ship all over. |

| Great sources for supplies, thanks all, keep them coming. A wonderful paper supply source I've used for years is New York Central Art Supply http://www.nycentralartsupply.com Thanks GD for the framing source. Another option for framing is to join a (art, exhibition) group that uses one framer so the price is cheaper and quality good. My group just lost a wonderful framer we used for years so I'll be looking into the framing sites online until we find a replacement. Any suggestions on the best mat cutters? |

| Source for sculpture and clay tools. I haven't gotten any of their brushes, but have been told by friends that they are nice. Chinese Clay Art. They are in California, are Chinese and bring all of the tools from China.

I haven't gotten the brushes because I am fussy about my brushes and have to see and feel them before I buy.

| In case anyone is interested and didn’t see this note in one of the threads here . . . I thought I’d share a very nice art resource on the web that has tons of info and tips for artists and craftsmen alike.
I recently joined a free paint/art site that is very friendly and helpful (much like here) and they have sub-sections for about any type of art you can think of and skill levels. I suggest you have a look if you haven’t already, it’s free and the people there very generous at offering advice and tips about everything from painting to framing and more. Much like DG . . . free and friendly advice is always a good thing ;)
It’s called Wet Canvas http://www.wetcanvas.com/forums/index.php?referrerid=102131

| I have a question about cutting "perfect" circles in thick board, similar in weight to mat board. What type of circle cutter do you suggest? I've tried one with a swivel head using a standard exacto blade which is fine for thinner paper. I need something heavy duty. |

| After reading through the posts here, thought I would add my sources:
http://www.asw.com (Art Supply Warehouse) : they have great stuff, cheap prices, very reliable (A+)
http://www.dharmatrading.com : fabulous place for art supplies; canvas, fabric paints, dyes, etc. Very reliable! Quick response time too!
http://www.firemountaingems.com : great stuff! jewelry findings, beads, huge catalog!!! Can't miss with these guys!
I also use Jerry's Artarama, Cheap Joes', and;
Scientific American (they have some weird stuff that you can't even imagine! You have to check that one out!
Otherwise, I hit Michael's and AC Moore with the coupon they put in the paper every Sunday.
Wet Canvas is a great place for info too!!!
I love this thread! Thanks all!

| I was able to look at the second one. The first one brought me to It's a small world and I had to sign in. The third wouldn't load.
The Scientific American store really does have a lot of stuff.
We have a place called Axman and they have really weird stuff. Every artist I know shops there. I don't have any idea where they get their stuff. For several years they had a used iron lung. When it sold the news was spread through out the arts community. |
