I recently bought a house that is 60 years old, and when I pulled the carpet back in the dining room I discovered a hole from the original heat register (I believe that is the proper terminology). While the old owners closed the hole, they did it uglier that all get out. I know I could just have the section of floor replaced repaired but I thought it would be interesting to get a replacement grill and keep the original look. What I need now is to know if anyone still offers grills in large sizes. All I can find now is small (4x8,4x10,etc.) sizes. Any help or suggestions would be appreciated.

Thank you

Search online for 'heat grates' or 'floor grates'. Renovator's Supply is one company that sells them in a lot of sizes.

If you find a grate you really like that's close in size, you can make the hole bigger if you need to... as long as there's no floor joist in the way.

Thank you Claypa, it looks like I might be able to find what I am after on that site. I'll have to look around a little more but I saw a few promising things already.

I'm looking for the same thing. When I do a search on Renovator's Supply, it doesn't take me to a catalog. Is there one online and what would the web address be?

Yes it does! Thanks! Here's hoping they have one that fits my hole in the floor. I've looked at a lot of sites and nobody has them large enough, or they're too large. Mine is probably about 11" by 14".

I'm finding that I am out of luck it seems. The hole in my floor is roughly 14.5 x 32, and no one seem to make grilles this size. Anybody got any ideas?

I saw some bigger grilles at an Antique place. I guess try there, and also see if there are any salvage type places around you. I found one up in Chicago, but I don't see that they have grilles or registers, which is what I need. They do however, have doors. And I need a door. Another option would be to find a welding shop and see if they could fabricate one for you.
