I've been trying little by little to change my bulbs with compact fluorescents. I have ceiling fans with four bulbs each in my guest bedrooms. They also have a dimmer switch and the dimmers are used frequently as we have a lot of little guests visiting. Should I use a compact flurescent in these fixtures? The package gives no warning saying there could be a problem but I'm just wondering if I should stick with a regular bulb in these rooms. Thanks for any help.
Hi nannybee, In the electrical trade in order to have dimmable fluroescent, we use a special switch and a special ballast for correct operation. And I might add they are very expensive, I am sure that the compact fluroescent lamps are not designed for such use. Hope that helps.

As I stated, there are dimmable compact fluorescent bulbs. They cost about $11 and up.
They use a new electronic ballast instead of costly magnetic coils, and being compact instead of a tube, the voltage doesn't need to be as high to ignite.
Thanks for all your knowledge. Since these fans really aren't used that much it isn't worth the expense to go with the compact flourescents in these fixtures.
