When a kitchen has an elect. cooktop and a seperate single built-in oven both of them require a 240 outlet?

I am asking because in my daughters home there is a cooktop and seperate built in oven and both of them need to be trashed. She will replace w/ a free standing range where the cooktop is now located so that will not require an electrician will it?

Depends on the size of the wire, and the amperage requirements of the range. Most ranges use a range cable that has a #8 American Wire Gauge wire in it and that is 40 amps. See what your cooktop is fused at or the amperage on the breaker, that should tell you if the cable is large enough. If not you should run a new cable, and that should be installed by a licensed electrician.
