You might check your local yarn shops--often they'll offer classes so you can go and get some in-person instruction. I think knit and crochet are easier to learn if you can watch someone doing it vs looking at pictures in a book, but that's just me!
LOL hd, wish you luck in the training. I laugh because I was making cashmere blankets for my grandbabies before they were born and we were at the cabin. The yard had to be rolled into a ball before using and that took an inordinate amount of time and help, not to mention the expense of cashmere.
Well, there I was working on one blanket and Tasha and Casey (her cocker spaniel) here for a visit. Tasha told Casey to get his ball and he ran over and snatched up the ball of cashmere yarn. No real harm done but it was quite soggy working on the next several rows.

Ha, I was at a friend's house once to sit with her when she was ill. She had a couple of cats. I was crocheting an afghan. I swear that whole section I did while I was there was run through claws and cat lips before it got to the hook.
I agree it is easier to have personal help to learn to crochet or knit. But you still need to keep at it and practice until it becomes second nature to you. I am glad to see that knitting and crochet is coming back in fashion. It has given me much pleasure over the years and nice gifts to give to people.
Good luck and please post your first project. We will be happy to see it.
I don't know if you learned it yet but Susan Bates beginner's kit is really good. It comes in both knitting and crocheting kits. I learned by myself with these books and complete some of the projects within too. I advise learning knitting before crocheting. I heard from several people that knitting is more difficult to learn is you learn crocheting first. But crocheting becomes very easy to learn when one knows how to knit. So, that's my two cents.
