Remember my little JM 'Crimson Queen'? Well, I finally got it dug up tonight. Man, that was a lot of work, but it was in the path...literally, where our path is going to be and my visually impaired DH's vision has been rotten, so it needed to go to a safer space. I bought a large pot this weekend, biggest I could afford, and started to dig. I know we cut through roots to dig it up, and I broke the tips of a couple of branches (grrr) even though I pruned a fair amount of length off in preparation for this. Well, it was too dark for pics by the time I was done, so will have to wait for the final result. I sure hope I don't kill it. I had to knock off a lot of the clay soil, as gently as I could. I used a mix of professional potting soil and pine bark for the soil in the pot, and mulched it. The soil was damp, but not drippy, and I'll be watching it closely in the next few weeks.
I don't know how professionals do this...poor hubby, he was helping reach under to check roots and I kept telling him to watch his head so he didn't break a branch.
I got one pic before it got too dark...middle of the process, got it out, but the soil is still on it.
