Amazingly (and I say this based on my past success with papaver, etc.)

... my seeds are germinating and I have leaves, albeit 1cm from the ground leaves ... leaves nonetheless

and, they have come up in massive numbers. I will need to thin them.

asap. Hold them by a leaf, not the stem, incase they break you've just lost a leaf, not the whole seedling.
