Such beautiful visual artwork from so many talented DG'ers - it's a blessing to see your work. Peter posted a poem I enjoyed so I thought maybe all those that write might share some of their's as well.

Here's one of mine to start:

Delete entry…are you sure?
The time has come…
Truth be known it’s far over due

We take time to clean our house, our cars…
We schedule automatic virus scans & updates for our computers.
What about our mind…our hearts?
What system tools do we have to keep them running smoothly?
When are those “cookies” deleted…
When is the defrag run?

How many “goodbyes” are said?
Yet not with the mind or heart?

Finally realization hits…
That which you’ve been holding on to, to the point of pain…
Is nothing but a memory.
That “word document” you’ve been careful to
“save” each time is in fact – a blank screen.

What a breath of fresh air…
That in itself becomes liberating.
The ability to take a deep breath…
with no struggle – no pain
No “cookies” to slow you up…
No virus causing your system to shut down…

Freedom is a gift to give yourself…
Remove the shackles
You alone have the keys to.
No need to fear…
Give yourself the ok to let go – it is time.

The hard drive will keep the memories in tact…
This is no longer a program to run at each start up.

Delete entry…are you sure?
Yes…first with the mind
Then the heart.
Delete entry…Are you sure?
Yes

Very nice Chantell :)
I like that one! It reminded me I need to run my system checks ;) jus' fun'n :D

Poetry huh? Well I hadn't written anything in a while, but I guess I could share some of my old stuff with ya'll. I don't write often and normally when I do it's something to go with a tune I've made up on the old 12 string gee'tar.

However this one was more of a stand-alone poem I wrote several years ago. And since it is somewhat "seed" related, I guess it fits here in DG ;)

Hope ya can read it ok on the image.

Thanks for share'n yours,
GD

Thanks Chantell and Pepper :)

Obviously I'm not much of a poet, but I do enjoy putting words to music sometime.

Here's a little Christmas poem/jingle I did that same year. (I was thinking I may have posted this on here around Christmas time, but I can't remember where at if I did?)

Tis one's called "Special Time Of Year" and was actually written to go with a tune I do on my Native American flute . . . I realize it's a little out of season, but see what'cha think?

* This is such a special time of year
Every one is spreading Christmas cheer
Friends and neighbors gather 'round
Sing'n songs and all around town
* This is such a special time of year

* This is such a special time of year
Jingle Bells are ringing in my ears
Grandma cooks and the kids all play
Can hardly wait for Christmas day
* This is such a special time of year

* This is such a special time of year
Candy canes and stockings everywhere
There's missile toe and a drummer boy
Feel the love and the Christmas joy
* This is such a special time of year

* This is such a special time of year
Silent Night is playing in my ears
The Baby Jesus was born that night
For the world a star so bright
* This is such a special time of year

Ah GD...now you've got me breaking out the really OLD Christmas poems (loved yours btw)

Twas Christmas eve night and in my chair I sat...
...looking at the nativity, wondering where was the baby Jesus at?

There in the stable is where I thought he would be
but when I looked there what did I see?

The manger of course - the swaddling clothes too
but there was no baby...Oh! What will we do?!

The star shone brightly while the shepherds looked on.
But where has the baby Jesus gone?

When searching for an answer there’s a good place to look.
God’s word is always there just open His book!

“For unto you is born this day...a saviour which is Christ the Lord.”
This was the birth even the angels foretold.

Oh but how could I have forgot?
It wasn’t the baby but a saviour they sought!

So why look to the manger? God’s word says he’s not there.
He grew up, died on the cross for the world’s sins he did bear!

When we celebrate His birthday...it’s not the baby, the tree, or the season...
It’s God’s Son, our saviour--JESUS !!!!

Chantell!! That is beautiful!! The truth about Christmas. I would love to have your permission to send that poem to a few people next Christmas. With your credits, of course.

And GD, dear humble friend, you most certainly ARE "much of a poet!" Those words of Love were beautifully chosen! I love the poem, as well as your presentation! Oh, I wish this were a talent I could claim as well.

Congratulations to both of you!

Oh sure...ummmm... OK...

Here goes... wait...no, hold on...OK, I'm ready.

"Roses are red..."...that sounds too familiar. I think it's taken already. Let me try again.

Ummmmmm...OK!

"I think that I shall never see
A poem as lovely as a tree..."

Wait a minute. Some girl named Joyce wrote that first, didn't she?

Actually I wrote a poem in high school that was really melodramatic, and I decided then that I should look for another venue for creativity. Words are not my best thing. But thanks for the confidence.

DH is the poet in our family. I hope you don't mind if I share his work.

'Because you won’t know if I don’t tell you'

Behind the house one ridge over, coyote howled
Tentative verses on his woods-life edda.
With the moon rising on his hunting field,
His own long shadow must add stature,
Like his winter coat, on a skinny frame.

Eager critics, the dogs barked back remarks
And yipped corrective prosody advice
Until they too gave way to the swelling song.
The song, in the still woods spread its undulate
Margins wide through the cooling valleys.

And the rustling deer settling in the leaves to sleep
Near the crests of hills, often the only sound
On still nights like this, stopped their bedding-down;
Surely to listen as this canine voice grows
To meet its own call to fill this place with song.

This mostly unwelcome guest sang his verses long
That night; his simple prey well schooled now
In his whereabouts, so pulled tight into their holes
Could themselves perhaps admire the rich
Convoluted plot and loose refrains,
More than the noise of our settling-in.

DH will be so pleased by your comments. He has always had a love of language and writes very well. I'll share one more. This one was published in a legal journal last year.

'After the Ruling'

Sun cuts sharp the old oak floor;
Me retired to chambers now
In my solitude to parse judgment
On chattel, children, and the like.

Returned, prefaced by the moan
Of ancient hinges on my door,
Failed hedge against last hopes,
I say this is my ruling and
Split them down the middle, as is the law.

In chambers after they are gone,
No words abide to close the file,
The case, the chapter, verse and day,
Or to set the sword of Solomon away.

Debra!!! I have goosebumps...DH most certainly has a beautiful way with words!! What a blessing!!

Nap - you are too cute!! I actually used that as my Christmas card a long, long time ago (when I was in my Dr. Seuss stage LOL)!! One of the only ones I still have from back then - only b/c my mom still has the "card" - LOL. Please feel free to use it - whatever "gifts" we have were given from above to be shared with those that would be touched by it.
