We pulled out a wall of upper cabinets to open the kitchen to the dining room. The cabinets were not as old as the house yet it exposed some of the original "plaster". It is greyish and has the texture of real real course sandpaper. Should I cover these spots, 1 x 2 ft, w/ something prior to priming or not? And some of this stuff fell off @ one corner exposing the metal corner brace etc. I will re-do that w/ ? I patched an upstairs wall w/ something in a plastic bucket that is more like concrete then plaster that a remodeler of old homes suggested so same thing?
I don't have any experience with plaster so can't advise you on specific products, but if the texture of the spots you uncovered is different than the rest of the wall I would definitely do something to make sure that the texture is the same, otherwise I think you'll always be able to look at the wall and tell where those spots were.
