Last fall I bought 2 Phyllostachys dulcis ( mail order and planted them in containers on my west wall. Needed something to soften up that 2 story flat space. They didn't grow much last year although they weathered the extreme cold snap here this winter fine. A few weeks ago I heavily fertilized them and I looked a few days ago and they are popping up nice thick culms!

That first pic was taken on 3.23.2007. This pic was taken this morning. That's fast! I love bamboo!
