    Found this nest of wasps under a sabal palm leaf last summer. They were only active during the AM when the sun was on the nest and quiet the rest of the day. Any idea who they are??

    I think they're paper wasps in the genus Polistes. Maybe this one?:

    Yes ClayPa - I think that your right. As mentioned in the link, they were stock still during part of the day. Latter in the year, my husband cut down the palm frond, thinking that the nest was empty only to find that they were still alive! Fortunately, they did not attack him.
