In the reference room of the library today they had 3 new books that just came in on Energy and hadn't even been shelved yet. Hoping for some info on micro-hydro, I looked at them. I came across this:

A micro-hydro plant in your shoes!

Apparently someone has studied the motion of the feet in walking and is working on a 2 part micro-hydro plant in shoes. The idea is that there would be a cushion of water in the heel and one in the toe, connected by a channel. The act of walking moves the water enough that it can generate enough power for a cell phone, iPod, or whatever.

Cool idea??

I think that I read someone is working on a backpack for emergency crews that generates enough power to provide light by using the shift in body with every step. If insoles work, why not water filled belts?

Or even waterbeds!

If anyone still has one. I always hated 'em.

I think we may see wondrous energy devices and energy savers in the next few years, Yippee!

Summer, I really need a new bed... I sleep in a swale. But a waterbed is not on the list.

A swale is a long depression in the ground (usually). Mine happens to be in my mattress!

LOL darius! Let's hope your roof doesn't leak. That swale is sure to collect water.

If I had a waterbed, unfortunately it wouldn't be generating any power... (unless you counted snoring) :-)
