I treat myself to a new Japanese maple every year (okay, sometimes more than one:), but it's sort of fun to research a bit with an excuse. I wanted to get some feedback from folks here on this forum with any suggestions for this year's choice. Most probably, I would keep the JM in a pot for at least a few years, so it can be moved around to determine its best situation in terms of sun, etc. In other words, those situations aren't factors in my decision. What IS a factor in my decision is that the tree must be good to zone 5(b), which is unfortunate since I really wanted an Abigail Rose and it is apparently marginal to my zone. Other factors are that I prefer uprights, and I like cultivars that hold some "unusual" interest either in the bark or the leaf or general structure.
