I'm looking at a couple of used wood stoves to buy for my mom's house and found a nice one that was removed from a manufactured home. The wood stove casing is double walled. The price is right but since her home is NOT a manufactured home, I wonder if the double wall design creates LESS heat output than a single walled stove would. If anyone has ANY information that might make this decision easier for me...I sure would appreciate it. Thanks
Go airtight, go modern. Newer stoves(generally after 1986) produce much more heat per quantity of wood burned. Check for the manufacturer and model on the fire rating placard, and seek them out for your specific questions. Having a double wall design should not decrease the stove BTU output. Most double wall designs are for use with blower systems. Mobile home approved stoves use minimal oxygen from the room for combustion, and therefore are less likely to deplete free oxygen needed for the occupants to breathe. Hope this helps.
