I want to remove GREEN indoor/outdoor carpet from our screened-in porch. i believe it is glued down and probably for at least 20 years.. I understand that if I rip it up, I will have yucky, hard-to-remove glue to deal with. If I want to just replace it with a similar product (maybe not green), do I have to get all the glue up? If not, do I apply more adhesive?
There are probably adhesive removers that you can get to get up the adhesive. What I would worry about if you don't remove the adhesive is that the surface may be uneven and then there'll be uneven spots in whatever you put on top. Have you considered dying/painting it to a color you like better instead of removing it? Or if you would rather put something like tile over it, if it's a wood subfloor you can attach cement backerboard to the subfloor and then put tile or some other hard type of flooring over top (with this approach you probably wouldn't need to worry about getting up the adhesive)
