Project: Installing a 3/4" solid hardwood on plywood subfloor of 2nd floor house.
Our concern are the noise when upstairs. I was suggested the product floor muffler.

I talked to the manufacturer. They said the product will work. They said the same material is also used in Lexus, Mercedes as sound proofing.
However, our installer said that the noise will just be transmitted thru the nail/staples. But most probably, it is an added work for them installing it that is why they hesitate.
Is this a good option for underlayment for sound reduction?
I don't know anything about this product in particular, but I can 't see how it couldn't help at least some. Noise is caused by vibration and a foam product like this should not only absorb some of the vibration from the hardwood, but also diffuse some of the vibration in the nails/staples as they pass through it.
IMO, it's rather like someone telling you not to insulate under the second story floor for sound dampening because sound will be transmitted through the joists. Well, of course it will! But you don't need the sound transmitted through the whole floor if you can help it, right? And insulation butting up against the joists can help buffer the sound transmission there, too.
You might also look at a cork underlayment, however. No idea as to cost differences or anything, but it's another option.
