Enjoy painting and am always waiting for some ideas of projects...think there are 4 or 5 pages of misc. photo's but a lot of my home decoration project are included...
Calalily, no it's simply a piece of mdf board...what you do is tape of inner section of mdf board size you want for your actual painting..I believe that Home Depot sells little containers of 'dap' - kind of paste that is for use to fill holes in drywall etc...you then on outer edge with palette knife or spatula or something similar lightly trowel on 'dap' similar to how you would do a cake frosting, don't make this layer too dimentional..let dry..dries very quickly or you can use hair dryer..now look for a pretty stencil and place in random areas and with your palette knife go over and lift stencil ..if putting the stencil close to other raised areas, dry first so your stencil doesn't move what you've just done...now I basecoated the entire piece with color of choice..I picket up some different metallic paints i.e. gold, bronze and even think I did copper and silver and drybrushed color just to lighting grab the raised areas...when my painting was completed I purchased a thin trim at Home Depot, painted to match and drybrushed a bit as well, nailed it or might have glued it, either one I'm sure if fine...entire project might have cost me $8.00
If you look at the plum tray also you will see that I've used same method..mdf and dap...the raised section is using end of brush to create random size dots and inside it stroke work done with dap as well...this project probably cost me $5.00 - took 2 pieces of identical wood and screwed them together..cut the outside design and the inner area of both handles..now I unscrewed the piece and cut circle out of one of them..now you can put the 2 together and you have the bottom for painting and the top as decoration...
If you look at the 3 piece wall set it's also done with 'dap'...I cut out I believe 3 pieces of 1/2 inch mdf into I don't know maybe 3 - 12 1/2 X12 1/2 squares..basecoated it with dark color then glued a sheet of scrapbooking paper to each..pick sheets that are similar in color and style...now I cut 3 - maybe 6" x 6" mdf squares with 1/4" mdf..took my palette knife and spread texture to each..don't go to crazy with dimension, but some dimension is necessary...painted it with basecolor and put my design on it when dry and did 3 different flowers..when done, I glued them to the piece..you could silicone I guess...then I added golf leafing...
Hope you try one of these projects and let me know the results...
thanks for the compliments once agian

Thank you so much for the directions. I'm tempted to try the frame. I do watercolors mostly, but have some acrylics that I could try. I'll let you know how they turn out.
I love the way you've incorporated the artwork with existing furnishings. Makes them that much more special. And gives you and everyone else in the house a chance to enjoy the artwork.
Wow, Bettypause,
You are truly gifted!! Saw a glimpse on your other thread, was equally awed. I love the painted headboards. What a great technique.
Also, i love your workroom!
