I am probably a glutton for punishment. I just today purchased a Japanese Maple Emperor 1 from a local nursery. I have always loved the Japanese Maples since I really became an avid gardener, so I was very excited when I found one. It says zone 5 on the tag. I have had good luck in the past with zone 5 perennials and a boxwood. They told me to put it on the east side of my house. Well, we can get some pretty strong east winds, and it seems a bit fragile. I was thinking about a southeast corner where it gets a bit more shelter between our deck and garage. It just may get to big for that area. Has anyone had this particular Japanese maple. I could use some advice on this. I also read where someone had planted it in a container and put in unheated garage. We don't have an insulated garage, so I think it would be better to plant. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank you
