I have a cottage built circa 1945, northern Michigan. When we had to move the cottage back from the bluff due to lake Michigan erosion the house was placed over the septic tank(s). When we had them pumped a few years ago the septic guy said they were Schimpke tanks (not sure of the spelling) they are two circular concrete tanks in series with about a 3" connection from one to the other. The second has a similar opening toward the top that heads outward to the drain field beyond. Has anyone ever heard of this set up? We only use the place about 2-3 months a year on weekends. It has one toilet and two sinks emptying into it. Our shower goes into a big drain field in the sand of busted up concrete and stones. |

I've never heard of this but if you find out what it is, let me know. I would be interested in finding out about it. |
