Well, I've been reluctant to post about this problem as it's so heartbreaking.
This spring, as it was starting to leaf out, I moved my Golden Full Moon maple into a sunnier spot, hoping it would do well there. The shade canopy above it had not yet grown in. The leaves were just starting to unfurl and were hanging down. I don't know what happened, it may have been a combination of cold weather, or too much sun, or too much water. I also suspected wilt.
However, it seems to be forming new leaf buds as I can feel some fuzzy buds now again on the branches. I took this photo a few days ago, and it seems to show them too. I let it dry out quite a bit in the last week, letting mother nature do the watering.
Please keep your fingers crossed. I moved it a shadier spot in my back yard and now have to figure out a different spot for it to be happy in. The 'Mizuho Beni' behind it is in much better shape.
