I swore I wouldn't move anything this year, but it was not to be.
I just moved 2 Sweetbay Magnolias from a too-shady spot and can hear these JMs calling to me...

I saw these 10'+ JMs at a big box store the other day - they were simply tagged "Coral Bark Japanese Maple" - no latin, etc. They appear to be upright trees, the branches splaying from the trunk all the way down. They are around $100 each.

So my question to you JM experts - could I put those in that empty spot? I'm thinking that the green leaf would really light up the shade. We love JMs - we have a 20' Bloodgood; lots of babies from that one; a pretty little just-attacked-by-winter-moths A japonicum 'aconitifolium'; and a no-name dissected green leaf 8' (also liked by the winter moths this year).

I've given up on getting anything big and evergreen for that shady spot - and am now concentrating on these JMs.

Is coral bark just one trait on many different trees? Or would that indicate a particular type of JM? Is that cost OK? Budget is a concern for us - so we can't go to my favorite nursery and buy a nice big one...

Here's a photo of the spot - between the trees - would like these trees to sort of mask the messy woods (neighbors that keep dumping stuff down the hill - don't you love that?!).

Thanks in advance - I really would appreciate any suggestions...

Kara
