I am new to gardening and have this plant in several places around our yard. We are in Z6a/5b in SW PA. It has looked like tufts of grass to me and I was going to mow it over, but I noticed the flower stalks. This morning it was blooming purple (three petals with yellow anthers). There are several buds on the stalk. Is this actually an ornamental grass, a normal grass, or a flower I am unaware of? Any help is appreciated.

Here is another image of the another plant that shows how the petals have pulled in during the day. They pictures were taken late in the afternoon...I had noticed the blooms early in the morning.

Take a look at spiderwort in the plant files and see if it matches your plant.

That's it. I put it in the plant id section (I didn't realize there was a separate section until after I posted this here.) Thanks for the response.
