Spring Sowed Hens and Chicks

Dearborn Heights, MI

If you where to spring sow some Hen and Chicks or Purple Peony Poppies late, how big should the plants be at this point. The only poppies Ive grown before this year where the P.Orientale. Attached is a pic of the babies, either Hen and Chicks or Purple Peony, not sure which ones are actually growing yet. Its a bad pic, but they are anywhere from 1.5"-2.5"
at the most.

I think the soil mix is just right for poppies. Its really poor soil and very sandy, from what I hear poppies dont like a very good soil. I also have 2 volunteer white marigolds from last year that came up in the same bed, one has a tiny little bud on it. In case your wondering about the seed for the poppies, the Hen and Chicks are Burpee purchased at Sprawlmart, and the Purple Peony was purchased at Lowes.

Poppies like poor soil.I have been watering my poppies in the evening time.It has been really dry here and hardly no rain.Good Luck with your poppies.

I just noticed today that there are little gnats hanging out on my poppies, i think they are laying eggs. Would a soapy water spray take care of them, or how about a nicotine spray? Any help, please.
