| Here's a picture of my first batch of goats milk base soap. I added some sunflower fragrance oil and wheat germ. The bars smell really nice and it lathers well. I've been using a sample bar and the scent is lasting through and through. Making soap is fun! Click the image for an enlarged view.

| They look great! I'm not a soaper so forgive my stupid question--is goats milk soap a melt and pour type product like glycerin or is it CP or something? I've been at etsy.com looking for handmade soaps and some sellers state how they process their soap and some dont't so I wasn't sure. |

| Thanks for answering me:)
I'm thinking of trying to make soap but I don't like the glycerin type soaps--they don't hold up well for me, I like the harder cured type of soaps. I'm a little afraid of trying to work with lye and all that. I live in an apartment and have small pets so the ventilation is a concern. I may just settle for making fragranced body washes, lotions, scrubs and body sprays then buy bar soaps from the pros:LOL: I don't plan to sell them, just personal use and gifts for friends. |

| You can use store-bought soap and use a shredder or you can use a knife to get the pieces small enough. You can melt that and add your own fragrances, etc. That way you aren't having to mix the lye yourself. There are some ideas on the internet about how to do that. I'd think you could use unscented Ivory or Dove soap and add essential oils, fragrance oils and/or herbs, etc. |

| Thanks for the tips:) I've been looking at the various sites and picked up some books and lurk on soaping forums so I can pick a starting point and jump in. Thanks again! |

I have made soaps off and on for a few years. I usually make enuff to last for a couple years when I get on a soapmaking kick. I must admit I was scared to death to use the lye and make sure all measurements were accurate to the T. Including buying 2 different scales to measure it all. It was easier than I imagined, but I did take all the precautions of safety. Cleared off the kitchen counters completely and did the premeasuring of everything and went for it. (I did however NOT answer the phone, doorbell, or accept any form of interruption) That helped me keep a clear head about what I was doing. Good Luck...it isn't that bad afterall. Or no one would make the soap. |

| Thanks for the reassurance Toffy:) That helps alot. I'd have to quarantine the short fuzzy people upstairs because wherever I'm at is where they have to be:LOL: I like your idea of big batching and getting it all done and calling it a day. I'll definitely keep all of the tips I'm getting in mind and in the notebook I'm filling out. |

| dmac...all I make is CP goats milk soap and I make it in my kitchen. Don't be afraid of the lye. At first I was like...OMG...what's going to happen here when I add that lye into the liquid? NAH...You just have to take safety precautions and be careful...I always mix my lye/goatsmilk in a bucket in the sink. I also fill the sink with water and ice, to cool it down fast so that the goatsmilk doesn't burn. I also freeze the goatsmilk...which cools everything down. I would love to make a really white bar of goats milk soap CP, but I don't think it's possible.
I started making soap for myself and my friends...Word spread and I now have it in a florist shop and 2 beauty salons. Here's a batch I made the other day for Mothers Day for a florist promotion...I'm also making Rose oil diffusers...I have an order of 50 for Mothers Day.Not bad! Click the image for an enlarged view.

| If you do a search (google.com, for example) on "how to make soap" you will get a lot of good hits.
There are many web sitest that have instructions. Millersoap.com is a good example. And the forum on craftserver.com is another place to start. |
