When filling in garden beds around a house foundation, can mulch go directly up against the concrete, or must there be a strip of gravel or something as a drainage buffer between the two?
I think it's always better to leave a little space between the mulch and the foundation. You don't necessarily need to put anything else there, just stop the mulch a few inches away so it's not piled up against the foundation.
