It smells awesome on my porch! Also wanted to extend an invitation to anyone who wants to check out my site http://www.phoenixtropicals.com. It has some detailed articles about growing tropical plants in the desert and includes a free specialized garden talk page where you can upload pictures etc.

What variety is that?..what do you think is the fastest growing Plumeria variety or color?
Here, the first leaves on mine(5') are about half grown..I'm not sure if it will flower. Last year was very warm and it flowered by July. Very cool weather this year.

I think it could be Penang Peach.
The one that blooms earliest in my yard (SW Florida) is Lemon Chiffon; also Aztec Gold. Both are yellow.

Yes, its Penang Peach, and the one behind it is a Singapore. Penang seems like a really good one because it branches and flowers a lot. I had an Aztec Gold cutting that I sold once. I never put it in the ground, but man that was really a grower. I'm kind of tempted to get an Aztec Gold and put it in the ground now, because it seemed to do so well.

Where do you all find the names for the various plumeria? There are so many growing out here, but I think only a few different varieties. We just call them "White", "Pink", White/Yellow", "Yellow", "Pink", and the ever popular "Rainbow". I spose that sounds very silly to those of you who know better, but that's just the norm around our little island. But I would like to learn what they should be called. I try to spend some time in the Plumie forum, but there is never enough time in a day! Got a good link to share?

Hi Phoenixtropicals, I guess it is tropical time here in the desert! Here's a picture of my Plumeria alba var White Frangipani which totally went crazy this year. Agreed the smell is outstanding!

I finally got me another Plumeria this past spring after having my last one stolen a few years ago. I bought this one from a neighbor who was moving up north. (sad for her) All she was able to tell me was she put out in the late spring, brings it in in the fall, it blooms off of all 6 braches and that they are white. My last one I fertilized each spring and summer with 10-50-10 because I was told to by some one some where, but she said she used 8-8-8 and only once a year if at all and it has done great. What do you suggest.

Shari, I suggest you have a look at the Plumeria Society of America website.

Lance, various climate and soil conditions require different approaches to fertilizing. Personally, I give mine a 13-13-13 timed release fertilizer at the beginning of the growth season, and top it up from time to time with a bloom booster (the high middle number). I have more blooms this year than ever so I must be doing something right!
How sad to have had your plumeria STOLEN!

Thanks Dutchlady,
I'll continue with the process that has been tried and proven for me this year and we will see what happens, the old one would bloom before July, I think that the new one is on track to make that date. I guess we will see.
More disbelief than sad, to have plants stolen. July 5 2002, easy date to remember because we moved into my current home on July 4th 2002 from my old home about 12 miles away. The old plumeria was in beautiful bloom and I did'nt want to have it blown to pieces in the back of a truck so I left it on the padio of the old house with a few other plants, planning to return for them the next day. I thought I was losing my mind when I went back, I mean I was dog tired from moving, we did the whole Independence Day celebration the night before and it was hot and hummid I'm sure. Never the less the kind soul was nice enough to leave behind some cannas and some ginger that I had just potted to take with me. Every other potted plant was gone.

Lance, I understand your disbelief...last Christmas I was on the phone with my Mom in Texas, was just wandering around the dining room chatting away and I saw a man peddeling down the street with one of my desert roses in his dive cart! I was too stunned to do anything! If he had asked me, I would have given it to him with no hesitation...I had 8 or 9 at the time! But that he would just take it!?!? And on Christmas Day?!? It truly blew me away! I would no more take a plant from someone's garden than I would take a pet! Cuttings, sure ...but the whole plant? You have my sympathy sir.
