My sister, Connie and I stopped by the Warren Loose Conservatory. There was also a sign that said Binks Botanical Gardens. This was at Tyrrel Park off Fannett Road. She and I tried to go there once before and it was closed after Rita while they did repairs to the roof that had blown completely off. Lots of political problems with insurance claim since the botanical people run it, but it's owned by the city. The city got paid for the new roof, but didn't pass along the money to the botanical people. They spent their own money + donations to put it all back together. It is really nice there.
I didn't write down all of the plants that I took photos of. Perhaps you'll recognize some of them.
This palm tree was damaged by Rita. Someone has carved the damaged trunks of the trees to make art in the conservatory.
More photos to come.
Janet
Edited to add: The outside gardens are open to the public. The conservatory charges $3 for adults for admission. There are many orchids, bromeliads, and other tropical plants in the conservatory with a lot of memorials.
