I took delivery on 9 JM's today, compliments of Parks/Wayside's clearance sale.
3 x Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Orangeola' (high grafts @~18")
3 x Acer palmatum 'Bloodgood' (low grafts @~4-6")
3 x Acer palmatum var. dissectum 'Crimson Queen' (high grafts @~18")
They're all seemingly healthy, except for some tatty leaves on the 'Bloodgoods.' They're in trade gallon pots, staked with bamboo.
All I've done so far is unpack them, look them over, and give them a 10 minute soak in a tub of water. They'll spend tonight in the carport, protected from the wind, and I'll pot them up tomorrow.
I've read it's best to only take them up 1 pot size a year, so I guess I'll use 400's or maybe 600's. I plan to use a homemade mix consisting of partially decomposed pine bark fines/perlite/screened sphagnum peat, mixed 4/1/1. I'll also toss in a little Holly-Tone, since I read they like slightly acid soil.
I intend to grow them on in pots for at least a year, before installing them in the garden.
Any tips, tricks and advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.
