I recently bought a very small sider plant, it came in about a 3" pot. It is a bit pathetic, with many bent leaves, making it not very nice to look at. Should I trim the bent leaves? It dosen't seem like they will ever recover. It is quite sparse and the leaves are quite thin. What can I do to help it improve? What are the best living conditions and watering requirements? My house is about 78 and I actually picked the plant for a spot that dosen't get my light. Now, I'm thinking I'll have to move it...
Your plant looks fine to me, healthy color. How big is the pot it's in? It may need a smaller pot. And are you saying you have it in a dark location, not much light? I find that Spiders need bright light to do well. I think the temperature of your home sounds find. I have a few Spider Plants that are outside on my deck in very bright light. One was a teeny baby I got in a trade here on DG ... I potted it up in a little styrofoam cup and it has grown quite a bit. I water every two weeks in cooler months and during the very hot summer once a week. They like humidity too, so I spray them once in awhile with a mister.
Hi Amey, spider plants are the ones kids usually like to start off careing for plants as they are just about indistructable, have you repotted it yourself, the soil looks a bit cource for a new plant, if it is, then it wont hold much water and any neutrients will get washed out when you do water it, so try change the soil to an indoor plant compost, you can buy small bags for just a few plants, it does look nice and green though, if you have just potted it, it will prob need time to settle into the new conditions you have, it will stiffen up within a few weeks, the other point about light is really valid, your plant nees lots of light, but not on a window ledge where it will fry due to the glass acting like a magnifying glass and will burn the leaves, so sit it somwhere it gets good light without the sunburn factor, mist it often, but in a warm room, I water mine every week and add a liquide plant feed every second watering while it is growing, stop the feed in the autumn/winter and just water as and when the soil is dry, just enough to prevent it from dying back.
