I just bought a decent sized acer palmatum 'bloodgood'. The nursery told me to create a ring around the tree and water it for 2 hours every 4-5 days. They said the flow should be enough to form a constant shallow puddle in the ring, but not overflow. That sounds like a lot of water to me and I've read here some warnings about killing them with kindness. I don't want to kill this tree, so I'm hoping for some confirmation here. The tree is currently about 5 feet tall and wide.
I also transplanted a smaller acer dissectum 'waterfall' that had only been in the ground for about a month or less. I'm hoping the move will not affect the tree since it really didn't have time to get established. Should I do anything special to prevent stress?
Thanks much
