A friend of ours just returned from his second South African hunt and he got this and I have forgotten what he called it and he is away fishing this week. It was a monster and I'll know the name when I hear it.

I don't think it is too difficult to make the books when you hunt in that area. They went last year and got several that made the books. Will tell him the congrats as you know how hunters love that word! LOL

haighr, My next door neighbor, his cousin, son, brother and another cousin went to South Africa on a safari last month. They spent a combined $125k for the 12 days. Absolutely fantastic hunting ... multiple ... Cape Buffalo, Kudu, Hippopotamus, Leopard, Wart Hog; etc.

Likely a bit more than these guys spent I believe but sounds like a group deal, but with the animals and hides and then the mounts perhaps in that neighborhood!

Not an Elan, but an "Eland", the largest antelope.

It was huge and he had the head and antlers mounted! One of these days will photograph the mounts of all of them as he finally received them after almost 2 years of waiting.
