What a nice flower, can look at them all day long, too bad only a few will tolerate wet weather Delaware.

Ah, but so much more will grow in DE than will here; with less than 8" annual precipitation.

So true, so true. I am trying to grow some xeric adapted Salvias and so far I have had some luck growing them in containers. Maybe I can make that work with some of the Penstemons.

If I were to make an uneducated guess, I would say that Penstemons, on the whole, have slightly less strict drainage requirements than the average xeric Salvia.
    Worth a try!

That gives me hope. I had Salvia funerea sprout from seed, then give up already. It was exciting while it lasted.
