I will take a picture and post it soon, but to make a long story short. . .
We have a new place that came with a "water garden".
It's doing pretty well even though it has been untended for a year.
However, there is an incredibly overgrown juniper that borders the (concrete) pond and which I want to cut back--though my husband wants to remove it entirely and plant ornamental grass instead.
There are a lot of ornamental grasses planted at his workplace and he loves them--his other persuasive tactic is that they won't have roots that damage the pond, and won't drop needles or leaves into the pond--the thing is full of juniper debris.
I don't know anything about ornamental grasses (or "water gardens" for that matter), but I do like to use native plants whenever I can.
Are there any lovely, big native ornamental grasses that are not invasive? (Zone 7--Chesapeake Bay region)
Additionally, my son wants a little bower of what we call 'pompous' grass--so maybe there is a way to make both the guys in my family happy with this!
Thanks for your feedback and suggestions.
(I'm getting ready to wade through all the threads on the forum for my 'Ornamental Grasses 101' lessons. . .)
