This is a 2' x 3' painting, oil on canvas, of a plumeria, based upon a photo by my DG friend and plumeria fan, DutchLady. I donated the painting to our local, annual HIV/AIDS fund raising art auction. It brought in $600 for the charity. I'm working toward completing about twelve more plumeria paintings within the next few months so that I can display them as my first "series."
Something happened to the formatting when I posted the image of the painting -- it turns out square when it is actually a rectangle, so it is a bit distorted. The image is copied from a CD .jpeg photo that I had done by a local professional photo company do in case I wanted to make gicle' prints from the image. Is the file size perhaps too big to copy onto DG and thus the change in the format?
Hope you enjoy it. The painting was a joy from start to finish and was created in an intensive painting effort of about ten days duration.
Thanks, Jazzpunk, for the technical tip. I think all I did was copy the .jpg file of the image from the CD provided by the photographer to my hard drive. The image seemed to work o.k. when I sent it by E-mail to friends, but I haven't had a chance to go back and determine what may have happened when I posted it on DG and if maybe reducing the file size might help or specifying the dimensions when I saved it.
Thanks also to all for your kind critiques and comments of support!
It looks OK to me, Jax - a vertical rectangle. And it's beautiful. Hope you'll post the other plumerias you do, too.
Perhaps you were looking at the thumbnail, which will always be square, no matter the shape of the actual image. I forget why, but it's just the way the thumbnails work.
