My husband wants to sell. I prefer making our 50s brick 1 level ranch look less dated. Has anyone made a change to the looks of their ranch that really "worked" without spending a bundle.
Yeah I tried but you have make one thing clear that cheap things never work. So, from this you can got an idea what I want to say. cheers, Hope u'll be fine.
Can you post a picture? It might be easier to suggest changes if we could see what it looks like now. Without spending a lot of money, a 50's ranch is still going to look like a 50's ranch, all you can do is freshen it up a bit but you're not going to be able to drastically change the look of the house.
Since the house is brick, I probably wouldn't do much to the house as a whole, if you had siding I would suggest painting in a contemporary color to freshen it up, but with brick you're probably better leaving it alone. If you have shutters or awnings over the windows that look dated, changing those could make things look a little fresher, and doing something interesting with the landscaping could also help make things look more updated (depending on what you want to do with the landscape that could get expensive). Some of these freshening up sorts of things would probably be a good idea to do even if you do go ahead and sell the house.
Thanks ecrane3. I'll try to find a picture. We're working on the freshening part -- landscaping, new kitchen, master suite -- maybe it'll come together.
Have you thought about solid plastering over the brick? It will give it a more modern look. What sort of windows do you have? Natural timber windows look quite good with a plaster finished veener.
