The local paper ran a proposed Harry Potter Garden. It gave the magical plant and a suggested Muggle alternative:
Magical - Muggle
Bubotuber = professor Pomona Sprout's that oozes puss from it's nasty boils that is used in treating acne and other skin conditions.
Replace with Walking Onion (Allium cepa) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/31430/ that has an aromatic and rubbery tuber.
Mandrake = A powerful restorative, useful in brewing antidotes and other potions.
Replace with Mandrake (Mandragora oficinarum) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/2271/ This one should not be ingested.
Gillyweed = Harry used this to grow gills in the Tri-Wizard Tournament.
Replace with Rush (Juncus) Many aquatic varieties available, such as my favorite. http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/55269/
Whomping Willow = Protects a tunnel entrance by Whompin' any intruder.
Replace with any old willow and just imagine it whompin' when the wind stirs it up.
Devil's Snare = Prefers dark & damp and will ensnare any who get too close. Will release it's prey if exposed to a fire.
Replace with a climbing Rose, or Dyckia fosteriana http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/98602/ which has good barbs
Venomous Tentacula = Like Devil's Snare, It will try to reach out and grab you if you get too close.
Replace with Scarlet Trumpet Vine (Distictis buccinatoria) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/49881/ which won't move as fast as the Hogwart's specimen, but it could swallow you up.
Fanged Geranium = As the name implies, they have teeth and a taste for flesh, but they aren't deadly.
Replace with Sea Holly (Egyngium alpinum) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/827/ The teeth are not as ferocious.
Honkin daffodil = These look just like the Muggle version, but they can carry a tune.
Replace with Daffodil (Narcissus). A two tone like Ice Follies http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/53945/ should work nicely.
Flutterby bush = Distinguished by it's foliage & flowers, which quiver and shake without the need for a breeze.
Replace with Swan Plant (Gomphocarpus physocarpus.) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/61453/ It has hairy, sticky stems and white or creamy flowers that turn to softly spiny pale green fruit. OR my choice would be the Butterfly plant (Clerodendrum ugandense) http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/827/
Mimbulus mimbletonia = Cactus like plant, a favourite of Neville Longbottom. Don't poke this one, as it will spew stink sap over you.
Replace with something in the Mammillaria family http://davesgarden.com/pf/b/Cactaceae/Mammillaria/none/culti... OR my choice would be Stapelia grandiflora http://davesgarden.com/pf/go/59151/ for it's lovely scented flowers.

Feel free to add your own additions to the wonderous garden. Or check out http://www.bellaonline.com/articles/art33294.asp for a little more humane garden interpretation.
