Well I've been looking at the first one and it certainly hasn't grown on me. The general form is OK, but the colors are too vivid for their stairway landing, and it's a bit too small also. This is the one I had first planned to do for the 4' X 5' opening, but have scaled it down to 20 X 35 inches. It will be quicker to build and easier to install. ( I hope ) I had a nice sheet of gold GNA sitting around waiting for a home so it will be happy to surround the cattails and Iris in this window. GNA is so neat, and it cuts like butter. The saw is a lifesaver when it comes to cutting the complex curves and little 'inroads'. OK, so I didn't putty the last one. I can do that anytime, almost, and I'll probably give to friend John to hang in his woods with the rest of the "retired" pieces. Doncha know, when you get to the point when you know what the thing looks like when its done, there ain't no need to finish it cuss ya got to start something new that you don't know what it will look like when its done.

Scooter, no I hadn't seen the picture, thank you. Isn't it great to see the old European glass work. So much must have been destroyed during the war, but at least some has been saved. Hard to tell if the pictured one is new or old, but either way very lovely. Quite an impressive group of 'revelers' too. At two or three pieces a day this one is going to be a bit slow. The sciatica should be improving soon (or else) and I can get back to getting lost in the process of cutting-grinding-fitting-dreaming and just flat out enjoying making little pieces of glass out of big ones. The small scraps and whatnots are the hardest darn things to pack aren't they. Sheets pack and move much better. What is the next step ?

Janet, Penelope is happy as a clam in the sunroom where she is better sheltered from the papparatzi (sp?). She has been out side sunning from the arbor on occasion, but complains of inadequate sunscreen. Just like a woman. lol

There's just something about stained glass that brings a smile to the face. Knowing the love that goes into the creation of such masterpieces makes that smile go from ear to ear.

Please post photos as you go along with Brian's window. It's neat watching it come together.

I'm so glad you are enjoying Penelope. That's why we made her. I bet she does get hot in the sunshine. I'm sure she's a happy camper at your house.

When it starts to cool down a bit, we'll get to work on my dragon, which will use the same type of T-Bar construction so his wings will flap up and down. It's just too hot in this heat to even think of firing up the torch.

Gadzooks Janet, dragons are my favorite people, next to Shelties. I tried for several years to learn Acanthus carving but failed and found that I really was looking for 'dragonstille' (poor spelling), the Norwegian intertwined serpent sort of dragons.I'd love to have a couple big ones poking off the ends of the roof to scare the demons away, and kids too. Maybe sometime if I was lucky enough to get one of your dragons I would have Fafnir the dragon and Penelope the dragon slayer.

After reading Eragon and seeing the movie, I have to agree about dragons being favorite people. They do have such a wonderful personality.

The head has been carved from clay. We always start with a head and work proportionately from there. The eyes have been inserted. (not shown) We need to bake it for a bit and get a body together. We've talked about using a green bottle for the body and making a cage around it to connect the wings. Then we talked about making the body part a topiary. It's still undecided exactly how it will look. As I said, it's just too hot to worry about it at this point.

Once mine is made, we'll consider making another one. I had to google the Acanthus carving to see what you were talking about. That reminds me of the wood carving on the wall that you did in another thread.

Oh Bal , so sorry I forgot . I too have sciatica, since 1959.
Pretty much got it under drug free control except once in a while I get a good jolt out of the blue that can last up to about 10 days. Usually happens when I neglect my excercises for too long.

Take care and please forgive my being so absent minded.

Warmly, S

What did Cyrano say ? something like "not so wide as a road nor deep as a well, but it will do". There's a BIG problem here. Taking time to finish a project before starting another one. Boy, I've got so many things running around in my head and not enough time to do them. So much came and foil sitting idle, as well as sheet after sheet of glass just waiting to be made into something. Of late the projects tended to be larger, more to use up materials than anything. What a delightful quandary.

Hey Scoot, time for you to post more of your work isn't it.

I hung up my cutters and nippers a year ago , just waiting to get relocated ( before I go bonkers !)

DD sent me a pic of something she would like copied but it goes on the back burner with the rest ;-((

And ya just know I gotta make something for the new house ... Does it ever end ???

Speaking of the new house , we will be about an hour from Chattanooga and I just heard it referred to as Little Vegas from a pal down that a way ... interesting eh?

Going along well albeit slowly. Thanks for asking.

Bought a large van so all my small critters in their crates can travel safely . Miss my old comfy dog show van but I love that the new one is lipstick red !!! Way easier to find in a parking lot than that taupe-like color on the old one.

Currently deciding on where to have the horses sent to for a couple of months while we put up fencing and a small barn.

Pawn shops ! Wow, never thought of that !
Could make an interesting afternoon out I think.

Realtor wants to show the house again this weekend *crossing fingers*

The biggest problem I have with stained glass, and I must admit, to the rest of the things I do, is persevering to the bitter end. Once you get close to the end and can "see" the completed project in your head, it gets harder to finish it off before starting on the next one. Boy are there a bunch of new designs I want to get started on.

funny I should find this thread right now because I am doing a purple iris with long green leaves on a stepstool!! My problem right now is after I get an image down and Finally get it right I am not sure than what I want to do with the rest of the background. I gues I will have to grout with two different colors. Hope to be taking a class at a stained glass store soon and then I will learn how to solder too. Did you dolder it yet?? Louella

Louella, I soldered it yesterday and may get to puttying it today.

Good luck with the SG class. They are great for teaching the basics and a lot of shortcuts. The more advanced classes cover so many new things that I never knew existed. I signed up for one on glass painting that is coming up after the first of the year.

I can hardly wait for my class to start!! I am a mosaic artist, self taught. But I absolutely love stained glass and I know even the basic class will improve my mosaic art, but who knows I may even go on with a more advanced class after that. I have never taken a class befor, glass painting sounds good too. Good luck with that, Its all so much fun Isn't it?? Louella
