I have another new nuc this year.
The beehive entrance and the inside floor is littered with what looks like little dried up beetles about 1/2 the size of a bee. They are carried out by the bees and dumped on the entrance step.
    a) What are they?
    b)Is this a problem?
The nuc is also a little slow to grow.
    I appreciate any help here
    thanks

You have hive beatles and that is a big problem. You need to contact your extension agent and ask if there are other beekeepers around that can tell you what meds to put in the hive to get ride of the HBs. Not good at all. LIZ

Checkmite strips work well for small hive beetles.Google small hive beetle and you will find more info than you ever cared to know.

    Hey Polly,
A really good source of information for bee keepers is beesource.com--I have found it to be really helpful. Commercial beekeepers as well as hobbyists all use the forums.

You also might want to degrease the size of the entrance so the "gate keepers" can keep better control.
