| Terri,
I found out today that we're having a wedding in my backyard. I could use some ideas for a centerpiece for the tables. I have lots of coleus in a wide variety. Got any ideas??? I've even been thinking about using coleus for my daughter's bouquet. She's a real basic kind of gal.

| Calaliy, just think of it as 'painting' with flowers! You apply the sample design principles, colour, texture, line and shape.Have a go!!
Janet, That is wonderful news congradulations!
I'm sorry to say but I really couldn't recommend Coleus, either for the table centres or the bouquet.
The stems are very flimsy and would wilt in no time. Do you want to use Coleus just because you have it or is it the
colours you like? It is much better to use any evergreen foliage if possible. It could be done like the clear vase bowl above with coleus in water.
Is it going to be a 'traditional' or 'modern' wedding? any theme?what are your daughter's favourite flowers & colours?
These maybe some things to think about, but in the mean time I will have a look in my wedding floristry magazines and see if I can find anything with coleus for you.
then I will have to learn how to scan. ha ha!

| Thank you so much for your efforts Terri.
I have these little watering thingies that you'd normally have a rose or something like that in. I bought a little bag of them at one of the thrift stores. It's possible I could make her a coleus bouquet using those and wrap them up in something like an canna or elephant ear leaf or something like that. Right now though, that is the least of my worries.
I don't know for sure if there is even going to be a wedding next week. We may have to evacuate because of Hurricane Dean. One thing's for sure, I will have to "batten down the hatches" on my yard regardless because I have a lot of things out there that could fly with big winds like Mean Dean is packing.
Please keep us all in your prayers as Dean heads across the oceans. I'm remembering Rita, and not looking forward to an evacuation again. That was a surreal time in my life.

| Thanks for sharing your lovely garden art with us here Terri. I've truly enjoyed every one of your creations. They are soooooooooo outside the box, yet so appropriate for so many things. You do have a very rare talent! Definitely my kinda gal! :-)
As I said on the Trop Forum, We are as prepared as we can be here. I've shopped, gotten cash, and filled up with Gas, even though my truck will stay. Hubby can always use that gas for the generator if necessary, should we have to leave. That was a problem when Rita struck... getting gas. They had people going back and forth to Houston to buy gas and return with it just to run the generators. Hubby will stay to hold the fort down.
We've got a plan to get out if Dean heads this direction. We have my mom's house to go to in San Antonio. Mom's in Virginia at the moment, but could have her house "turned back on" in an instant if necessary. It's plenty big enough for everyone to stay comfortably. It's 300 miles, as the crow flies, but we may have to route differently depending on Flooding from Erin. Mom's been in contact with friends there and there is no flooding near Mom's. Connie and I will round up the chicks and head that way if it looks like we are going to get hit. We won't wait until the last minute either.
Thank you so much for your prayers and your worrying. It's all in God's Hands where this storm will make landfall and the damage that will happen.
Much love to all of you folks here. And thank you for your continued prayers.

| Thanks Terri. I have always hand watered (with the hose) each evening. Sometimes I have to water in the mornings if I don't have time to water in the evening. The front yard gets BOTH morning and evening waterings because there are no trees to shade so things look pretty droopy by 3-4 pm. I am constantly plucking flowers from the coleus and basil, and yanking off the occasional yellowing leaf. It seems never ending sometimes.

| terriculture, your work makes me think of Andy Goldsworthy, an "environmental artist" who uses rocks, flowers, icicles, sand, sticks etc - anything from nature, to create works of art that usually are only as permanent as the elements and weather will allow. | Terri,
If you ever wanted to pursue decorating with flowers as a career, you are off to a brilliant start! Perhaps you could print out some of your designs and take them to a floral shop and offer your services. Custom Made Flower Art! Your creations are definitely outside of the box and I would imagine would be in high demand for "unique" folks, like myself. While I enjoy the arrangements I see in stores, and at funerals, yours are exciting and tell a story.
If nothing else, print our your designs and hang them on your wall to watch your "improvement" in your talent. They are truly wonderful!
Who knows... Perhaps some day, we'll be able to say we knew you back when... you weren't so famous! Waybigo grin! :-}

| First thing to do is show them off to people and give them away to drum up interest.
Then talk to florists, gift shops, and other places where unique stuff are welcomed and see if anyone would be willing to try selling them.
Also craft fairs are a good place to sell them. If you do a fair or a show, make sure to take cuttings along to make some in front of customers. They always enjoy watching how people make stuff. Then they usually want to buy them |

| Hi Terri!
I'm doing good. I've been having garage sales this week. And am so ready for someone to come haul off my stuff. I am doing what I can to make some money for the kitchen remodel that will happen... one of these days.
We just got back from the deer lease. Running around in the woods on 4 wheelers, checking on blinds and feeders, etc. Cutting trails. I'll be hunting... with my camera, while the guys (hubby and his bro) bow hunt and gun hunt. Bow season opens in 2 weeks. The guys are really getting antsy. There were deer and wild hog tracks everywhere we looked. We had a small hurricane come through here this past week. The lease is about 20 miles north and west of us. They wanted to be sure that none of the stands had blown over. Everything was standing, just as it's supposed to. There was quite a bit of standing water though. Do you suppose that the guys would go around those puddles. Ohhhhhhhhh noooooooo Right smack dab through the middle of the muddy slush. HAHAHAHA We had a blast!
Body's tired and I really need a nap.
Your flower arrangements are superb. As always! Love that Zen.

| Hi Donna, Thankyou for taking a look at my flower art and for the nice comments!
This sort of stuff has just been developed with my love for art and flower's! I went to art college and did a fine art
degree, then I worked as a gardener for many years! I gave up gardening when I hurt my knee and got into floristry
and floral art. Now I work at a college in the art dept, supporting students with learning difficulties. They do classes like
mosaics, screenprinting, creative stitching, enamelling, craft workshop and pottery. In my spare time I like to make
'flower art'. Hope I answered your question!

| terriculture,
It would be a good idea to start a part 2 thread for those on dial up. In fact since this is predominantly photos that take longer to load than text, I think it is good to start a new thread after the first 10-15 pictures. no matter how many replies there are.
I tried to show my Mom your arrangements on her very slow dial up service and it kept timing out before it would get the pictures loaded so she never did get to see them :~(

I agree that part 2 would be a good idea. Sometimes I forget about that since I'm not on Dial up, so I never mind when someone reminds me. I do have a tendency to add lots of photos to my own threads.
I'm really looking forward to your next creations. Your troll bridge was priceless!
See you on the next thread! Just be sure to put a link here to the new thread so the folks that have you watched will be able to find you. I also usually put a link to the original thread on the new one so that anyone just coming to the "party" can see your wonderful creations.

| Ok To copy a link. go to the address bar at the very top of your screen... starts with http:// etc. highlight it and then hold the CONTROL key down and press C. This will COPY the link to your "clipboard". When you get to the new thread, paste it and say something like "we came from here".
THEN, after your new thread is made. Do the same thing on THAT thread. Copy the address and paste it on a new message here and say something like "meet me on page 2". :-)
It's easy. If you need more help, let me know. Hubby is just coming in from hunting, so I'll be back in a bit after dinner.

I may not have any talent with a brush but I sure can swing a hammer and love the opportunity to boss people around! lol. NO FRANK, I said the 1/2" not the 5/8". I tell ya, sometimes I think I would have better luck talking to a brick wall.
Speaking of which, what would everyone like to see in the Artisan's FLOWERPOT Cafe'. I have located the perfect spot which will allow you plenty of room the relax, work and hang your pieces. Please let me know and I will get the guys right on it...No, No, No...Excuse me for a moment. I have to go straighten some kinks out.
I am going ahead and opening the doors. It is a bit bare, but after a few of the artisans drop in and some suggestions are made, I have a feeling it will be filled with all your fancies in no time.
Also have a look at our second FLOWERPOT Cafe'. I could inspire you on ideas.

We also have a wonderful little florist in the neighborhood, The Garden Belle. Stop by anytime to pick up some fresh cut flowers or any of the arrangements provided by our floriforus artists. | I made sure no hanky panky was going on at any time, as I did not go to sleep last night. It was extremely hilarous whe Zany walking into your kitchenette and ate a jar of mayonaise, saying "This is the best soup I have ever had." I would have woken her, but I have alway heard you don't wake up someone sleep walking. Do you feel full Zany? |
