Hi! I have learned SO MUCH from the various forum here! Just love sharing and getting advice.

I recently posted for ideas on WHAT to do in our kitchen. As a baby step to painting a whole kitchen worth of cabinets, I am doing the cabinets in our little bathroom. This way I can learn the techniques and see the results from a small project and hopefully get my reluctant husband on board for the kitchen redo, (which he has no idea about!) ;-)

We will likely sell in approx 2-3 years, so I am thinking for the future, not *just* what I want. Let me know what you think! (and chime in on my kitchen project too, if you like!)

another before pic - the house was built in '87 and the cabinets are particleboard with an oak veneer, I think. I'm nervous to refinish them, and really have NO IDEA what I'm doing, but am going to try it anyway. I convinced my husband to give it a try on the philosophy that I couldn't make them look WORSE, even if they have several knicks in a year, since they look BAD now! lol

Here are the colors I've chosen. What do you think? The hardware is shiny silver in this bathroom.

Heya! I stumbled on this thread really randomly, since this isn't even a forum I knew existed! :-)

Have you done this project yet? How did it turn out??

We had similar cabinets in our townhouse, and one in an upstairs bathroom had badly damaged veneer (about 30% gone) on the door. Our real estate agent (who was generally pretty budget conscious) thought either the door or maybe the whole cabinet would have to be replaced before we put the place on the market... but I figured I had nothing to lose by trying... I used wood putty, built up in a couple of layers and then sanded smooth to cover the missing areas of veneer. Then I gave it a coat of Kilz (great primer for any older surface, especially kitchen cabinets -- scrub them to get most of the stuff off, and then the primer will cover any remaining oil so paint will stick) and two coats of interior latex paint. It came out looking great!

I really like your green wall color! I can't quite tell from the paint chips, but I wondered if you'd end up with enough contrast between the wall and the cabinet... they seem to be very similar light/dark values. But it's only paint... and if you decide the cabinets need a richer or darker hue, you could glaze over them, trim them out in a darker tone, or even repaint them entirely.

Cool! I really like the cabinet color in the bath... less beige than it looked on the color chip, and I think that hint of pink works really well with the pale green on the walls. You did a great job!

So glad you like it! Thanks a bunch! Glad your project came out so well also. Lots better than sinking $ into a cabinet for the new owners, huh? (even though it's a lot of work...) I sometimes feel this kitchen will NEEEVVVEEERR be done. lol! ;-)

Sure, I found it at Target. They have lots of other items that coordinate with it too! It may not still be sold in stores, but it can't hurt to check your local store and online. (They had switch plates, towel hook racks, rugs, wallpaper border, etc.) Try ebay if all else fails.

Good luck!
