I've planted a root last year and now it is a 5 ft tall stick. I have nipped off the sucker to this point so the first branches will be above head level. Now that it is spring I was wondering if I should cut it down to ground level or not. I have read that it will make the trunk stronger. It's hard to cut down a healthy tree. I live in Springfield, Il in a new development and the winds can really blow pretty hard with nothing here to stop them.
