I am sitting here in compete awe over this thread...It's totally amazing! Thank-you so much for all your ideas and beautiful photo's.

I am so very fortunate that I live in Florida where I can enjoy my outdoor areas all year round. My house is very new as I just finished building it less than a year ago...but I look at it as a clean palate and the outside is starting to look beautiful. Gardening has become my passion. I escape from hectic business days to my garden, as it is the place I find peace and serenity...just wish I had more time to spend.

Here's a little slide show I put together, thanks to FredRump using it, from another thread. Would love to see more of your pictures!

For sure you built one of my dream Frontgate homes! I am sure they would love to feature your abode in their catalog!
Can't tell you when I have seen better use of plant material and everything is so healthy. You surely have fantastic taste and very green thumbs!

Serenely enjoyable !
I really enjoyed seeing all the pictures but appreciated the night time photographs, especially the one with the palm cluster framed in by the stout square columns.
~~ beautiful !~~
There were a couple of plants that I was not familiar with , such as that yellow vine. - very cool.

congrats on attaining the tropical dream.

Thank-you guys! It really is serene isn't it? I consider myself a very fortunate soul...

Went out and purchased another couple of those original trellises, and had them attached to the outside of the pool cage. They are really good ($22 a piece from Lowes)...makes me want to put them all around the entire cage! I have a couple of Stephanotis that I'm going to grow on them.

Amazing work KatG. You are a fortunate soul indeed! To be so talented and resourceful is a blessing.

I really liked the slide show and watched the whole thing totally in awe. Beautiful home.

I, too, am from Florida and was wondering if you had any hints for growing the stephanotis. I purchased some with my wife and it arrived a beautiful vine, but died out after a month in my bedroom with south facing windows.

Is it a lot easier to grow outdoors? Now that we have our own house and yard I would love to purchase another vine and go at it again.

Thanks, and great pics.

Hello Spencer...Thank-you.

This is my first experience growing Stephanotis and so far, so good. The first one I purchased back in May and it's been outside under my pool cage in a filtered South East position. The other one was a gift and I kept it inside for about a month in a West Window. It was beautiful when I got it but started to lose it's leaves and turn brown on me, so I moved it outside with the other one and it quickly recovered. About a month ago, I moved them both outside the cage in full sun and put them on trellises (still in the large containers). They seem to like it and have been blooming and really growing well. I'm thinking they appreciate some humidity.

They are really beautiful plants...Good Luck.

Kat, I love your house, garden, pool -- the whole works! We are planning to build a pool and enclose it for year round use. Ours can not be attached to the house, but I want the enclosure to look much like yours with lots of beautiful plants. How is the temperature regulated in your enclosed area? Here we would enjoy the added heat from the sun in late fall, winter, and early spring, but during the rest of the year, we need some way to decrease heat.

Patrob...My poolcage is enclosed with screen. I think somebody first started doing this in Fla. because of all the critters/bugs getting in the pool. I think that's about the only purpose they serve. You will not find too many pools around here without a screen enclosure.

I'm not familiar with the annual temps in Goldthwaite, but year-round the cage probably decreases the sun exposure by about 25%. It's cooler under the cage, but really doesn't do a lot if your climate is cool and you're looking to winterize.

However...it is the perfect atmosphere for my container garden with decreased heat and sun in the summer.

Hope you find the right enclosure...
