Calalily, that's just beautiful! I can't draw or paint a lick, so I admire your talent. Not to mention I'm a big bird fan, of course!~~ Thanks for posting this larger shot---I'll be anxious to see progress!

Calalily, why not add a few thinner branches coming off of the thick one with some leaves on them? Possibly cherry blossoms? You should be able to find reference shots online somewhere. Make them small and paler in color, the main focus should be the bird, you don't want the background to compete for attention.

So far it looks great..

It's finished, the background is pale orange and blue. I thought about adding branches, but left it alone.

Oh, that's GORGEOUS---I love the subtle shading in the background. It really sets off the bird...NICE JOB!
