I've grown snap beans (mostly pole type) for several years and enjoy them. I was giving some thought to trying to grow some dry types of beans next season (not cow peas, I don't think, but typical dry bean varieties for up here in the Great Lakes/Northeast region). Just a basic question. Do they dry in the pod before harvesting, or is there an extra step involved to "cure" them somehow?

I'm optimistic that by this time next year I might be filling some of these old canning jars (we found a ton of them in the basement of our house) with some homegrown dry beans.

Thanks in advance for advice and suggestions.
