I had a Hampton Bay combination ceiling fan/light fixture from Home Depot, installed by someone else over a year ago. I discovered that when I flip the button to change the direction of the fan blades, they don't change direction. No matter which position the button is in, they only revolve clockwise, which directs the airflow upward. Everything else works fine.

When I asked someone at HD about it they said that the motor was shorted and the fan would have to be replaced. That sounds like overkill to me. Does anyone know if it can be easily fixed. (I wouldn't be able to do it, but I would hire someone who could.) Any suggestions?

The reversing switch is bad, or has a bad or loose connection

Paul, Thanks for responding. If the switch is bad, do you know if it can be replaced without replacing the entire fan?

Thanks, Paul. I appreciate your help. Glad to know that I probably won't have to replace the fan.
