| Hi Everyone
I found a great feature on the Monrovia site. Look for Garden Quiz
Answer a few questions ...and identify your garden style ...and then receive suggestions for plants/trees etc. to get started.
It is a fairly nice site with "ask the expert" feature... you can search for particular plants/shrubs/trees and find retailers that have recently taken delivery of what you are searching for. Here is the site:

| Fun quiz but totally off. It came up I was a tropical style, I live in NJ, nothing real tropical here, I'm more a rustic/country style. |

| Mine came up as cottage style. I had a few second choice answers that were neck in neck with my first choice so I did it again choosing the second choice answers and also came up tropical. So I guess tropical must be very similar in style to the loose cottage style. |

| Very interesting! I'm rustic, wild and native. I love everything about it aside from the fact, I love daylilies, iris and cramming in any huge tropical plant I can find. LOL |

| Enjoyed the quiz. I'm a cottage style. Not surprising to me at all, but it's nice to have it confirmed. :) My flower bed has a variety of flowers and most of them old-fashioned--daisy, roses, butterfly bush, coreopsis, etc. |

| Rustic, wild & native...that really surprised me, but after seeing the flower and element list, it fits. And to think, I thought I was working on a mix of cottage and tropical! |

| Enjoyed the quiz. I came out as a cottage, and that's characteristic, I think, of part of my garden. BUT the bigger part is definately tropical and when I checked out the hallmarks of tropical style, that's clearly where I fit best. |

| Fun quiz! It pegged me as Modern, and I pretty much have to agree with that. Got some great plant ideas from it!! |

| Maybe your hobby choices didn't fit their idea of garden sterotypes. LOL For restaurants, I am all over the place and love almost everything and I'm the same with music and clothes and... It was fun anyway! ;) |

| Wow!!! I LOVE the quiz it was right on! I am rustic wild and a native gardner. I especially love to let the garden take its course and own shape for what the true character of the wild is. I love wisteria vines, coral bell wildflowers, autumn sage and the petite snow butterfly bush.
I live in Maryland and the stone walls and split rail fencing are popular because of the Civil War history here. Also, I most definately get inspired from just the essence of nature. I hate to take anything out of what already in place. Just let it be!!!
Thanks so much for the quiz. It gave me some really good insight because I just bought my first new house and have acquired 10 year old trees, plants, and flowers. |

You're welcome. I especially liked the fact that the site allows you to search for particular plants/shrubs/trees and to find retailers in your area that have recently taken delivery of those very plants. Like you, I try to stick to what is natural to my geographic location and try to be sure the design follows the natural contours of the land. On the occasion when I fall prey to some tree/plant that I think I have to have..or a design or feature not natural to the property, it generally is a lot more work, has many more issues to deal with, and doesn't look as comforatable as what is native to the area. It is sure hard to say 'no' when the eyes and heart says 'yes!' |

| Very interesting! I came up Zen, and it really was accurate as all heck! I've been unconsciously looking at quite a lot of those same plants suggested and trying to figure how to put them in, or incorporate them when I begin landscaping this spring :)
Thanks! That's going to make my shopping a lot easier :)
Another place that has so far been exceedingly helpful for me thus far for planning is the Lowe's garden center "Landscape Planner". (Lowes.com you have to sign up, but it's free and you also get a lot of do it yourself projects, plans, and such for arbor swings and the like) It allows you to choose your area, zone, place buildings, objects, select trees/shrubs/plants, and so on. It's helped me form a starting point at least :) Hope it helps anyone else :) |
