Jean, make sure it is HEAVY plastic, or that resin stuff...if it "flexes" all of your hard work will pop off!! lol...sue

nah-uhh .Not a all . they are 2 different animals.

SG art takes too long , takes a lot of dedicated space and can get expensive compared to mosaics.

SG just offers a different material for your tesserae.

I just suggest if ya are stuck for sumpin to cut up get a couple small pieces of SG or a bag o scraps and use that instead of tile or china.

Don't get suckered $$$ into buying pre-cut SG tiles the stuff is so easy and fast to cut .

Even at hobby lobby you will drool over the pretty colors and textures of the SG they have.
Prices are cheap and watch for their 1/2 off SG sales with no limit ;-)

Take a styro ball wrap it in silver aluminium tape and glue on squares of clear colored SG with clear silicone for a small gazing ball.

Group 3 different sizes make a charming sparkly display in the garden.

hey I already did that!! chuckle!! I have done some stained glass mosaics, with the nifty "Van Gogh glass and water mirrored glass" an outdoor table, but it is so primitive i won't post a pic of it!! I like it anyway... I love the reflective qualities of glass...you are right i went to my local stained glass studio and bought for 5.00 dollars a huge box of scrap, i take my glass cutter and score it and use the double wheeled cutters for snipping...someday i will take a class and learn to cut the pieces properly, it does create such professional results...i spent all day today happily cutting up tiles, smashing some cool handpainted cups, sticking on a ceramic turtle, some cup handles stuck them on the sides and of course tons of glass globbies, and making more "pique Assiette" pots for my succulents...it is so mindless and easy. I don't want to think too hard (chuckle)..i do this in my kitchen while watching tv with my husband...made some really wacky pots today! sue

ohhhhhhhhh ... I have a small supply of VanGogh . I love it .
You are a better woman than I having the patience to create pique assiette .Nip, nip, nipping to create the special shapes from a pattern on the china would drive me bonkers.

My glasser friend and mentor Pam has created some to die for pique assiette mirrors. She can do it all ... leaded or foiled SG , mosaics with varied materials , slumped glass, bead-making and can whip up a Tiffany style SG item for a spur of the moment wedding gift, etc. unreal ! ! ! !

I think arbastar knows her too.

Have fun ☺

hey jam, absolutely!! when you place the mirrors with regular tiles on a piece it really adds some bling! Of course just be real careful when handling the mirror (i can't tell you how many glass splinters i have taken out of my hand)...sounds like a good start, to your project...did you find any interesting old plates...if you have any chipped ones, those are good too...pop them in a towel and hammer away!!! Lowes sells individual tiles for about 12 cents each! You can also break down the mirror this way into smaller pieces, to go around your pot..Some of the fun in using odds and ends on pots is in the collecting..don't forget Walmart for your glass marbles/globs...in ours they had some neat sea-themed glass pieces, that i use regularly...the dollar store yielded some moon and star glass marbles, that look nice on the pots...the possibilities are endless...sue

I wouldn't advise it myself, but if you must, make sure it is of the heavy plastic that is very firm. The problem with thinner plastic is that it bends and when that happens all your hard work may just pop off. Though you would probably be alright, why not make sure and just use something that is not plastic? Also you may want to roughen up the plastic (ouch, only if you must) so that your adhesive has something to grab onto.
