I have been in a cave for a number of years, but am emerging with a renewed passion for grasses and bamboos.

Is it safe/wise to divide grasses this time of year - ones that are root bound in nursery pots???

I certainly hope so, as I just bought a Saccharum ravennae at Costco - and separated 5 clumps, placing each in a new pot. My plan is to sink the pots into the soil until next spring when I will have a better idea as to "where" to locate them.

I also divided zebra grass and gold bar (Miscanthus sinensis var.) making two of each one - again nursery plants.

I hope I am not being foolish in my renewed enthusiasm...to do SOMETHING right now!!

What of black bamboo that is well established on my property - several culms that need to be relocated??? When can I pot them up??? Yes - I have lots of room for all this grassiness...life is good!!!!

Thanks so much
